During October 2025, the Friends of Moreletakloof conducted a second SASS survey for 2025 under the leadership of Elané Joubert, Aquatic Ecologist & Environmental Scientist (Pr. Sci Nat).
The results of the survey was as follows;
“The October 2025 results indicated that the Spruit is Largely Modified. Indicating a deterioration from September 2025 which was Moderately Modified. It is however still better than the results that were observed during May 2025 – when looking at the ASPT scores. The water level is lower than in September which leads to less marginal vegetation to sample. The lack in stones biotope and absence in gravel and sand biotopes can be attributed to the fact the Spruit is still modified. The deterioration can be explained by the fact that there was a decrease in taxa observed and a slight decrease in the presence of sensitive species, such as Helodidae and more than 2 species of Baetids.“
