Bird Ringing & the BIG Clean-Up

We have a jam packed Saturday planned with two events taking place tomorrow 7 February 2015:

Please be part of the BIG drive to clean all our green areas starting from 05:30. You are welcome to join from any time, grab a bag at the gate which we will supply, fill it up and deposit it in the skip kindly sponsored by Star Skips placed near the Information Hut. (For all your skip hire needs, visit their website www.starskips.co.za or like their Facebook page: Star Skips).

This is a clean up effort that will take place in all the reserves in the east of Pretoria tomorrow. We will be focusing on the spruit areas and also cutting out some bug weed and invader plants. So if you have some clipers, bring it with and help us take out some invader plants (we will point it out to you). We will also clean along the spruit from above the dam wall (go into veld at the new wooden bridge, and walk along or in the spruit).

At the same time we will be hosting a Bird Ringing event that also start from 05:30. You can stop of at their tents while cleaning up, and see the work they do ringing birds. This will take place until around 09:00. From the youngest to the oldest love this
mornings.

Remember something to eat and drink, your camera and a small donation towards the upkeep of our own Reserve.

For more info mail us on info@moreletakloof.co.za.

Hope to see you there!

February 2015 Events – Join us!

On the Saturday the 7th of February, we will once again have a Bird Ringing morning. Young and old love to see how the ringers catch the birds and work with them in such a caring way.

Best is to come early from around 06:00 (this will allow you to see the birds in the nets as well). The reserve is at its best so early. Remember something to eat and drink, walking shoes and maybe a small donation towards the reserve (we will have a donation box available).
On the same day you are also welcome to help us clean the Rademeyerspruit and the surrounding parts of the reserve where the storm water drains deposits all the street rubbish. We will supply bags and have a skip that you can deposit the bags into. Remember to wear old clothes and shoes. If you are you are brave you can walk in the stream, the most beautiful part of the reserve. This will be done in all the reserves and green areas east of Pretoria.

You can join us at any time from 05:00 – 11:00 – grab a bag at the gate and fill it up.

On Saturday the 21st of February we will be hosting a Mushroom Walk early in the morning followed by a talk afterwards by Liz Popich.

Fun Clean-Up of the Spruit – 15 November 2014

On the 15th of November 2014 we are planning a fun clean-up of the Rademeyerspruit in the Reserve. We start from 06:00, but you can join whenever it suits you!

The rain has come and the spruit is full of street rubbish that was washed in with our first rains. Family groups or friends can join us, but young children might find it it a bit rough (8 years and older).
We did a clean-up a few weeks ago and it was such a pleasure that we stayed in the water for five hours, just enjoying the peace and tranquility. You will be working in the most beautiful part of the reserve.
It will make you feel so good and satisfied that you helped help keep this reserve spotless.
Remember old shoes and clothing, something to eat and drink … and the need to relax in nature.
We will supply bags for the rubbish, you are welcome to bring gloves to use for the pickup.
There will be clear markings on the trees where to go.
